My career in journalism started in 1995 when Tobie van den Bergh, editor of Middelburg Observer, and still one of my mentors, gave me an opportunity to manage Die Daller, a small community newspaper in Groblersdal. Under his supervision, guidance and support, I am proud to say I grew into the photographer I am today.
For most of my career in photojournalism, I’ve been with the Lowveld Media Group in Nelspruit (Mbombela), where I ended up as chief photographer.
More than 20 years down the line, seeing most of it, doing it all and shooting it all, I was given the opportunity to start my own photographic company, HH Photography and Design (PTY) Ltd with my eldest son, Handré). Giving back to fellow photographers what I’ve learned over the years is the most rewarding part of my new journey. Apar from photographic training, I specialize in sport and corporate event photography.
Photography is a passion; It’s my hobby, my occupation, my breakaway… and I thank God every day for the talent and opportunities He provides.
